UK to Spain International Removals

Moving to Spain from the UK

A new home in Spain brings plenty to organise. Your belongings need a practical route from the UK front door to the rooms where you will use them. Move Home Easy plans removals to Spain around your inventory, property access and preferred dates, bringing collection, packing, transport and delivery into one coordinated service.

Mainland routes, island deliveries and hillside properties need different arrangements. A narrow old-town street or apartment lift can affect the vehicle and crew even when the shipment itself is straightforward. We can discuss moves involving Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and the Spanish coasts, with the exact coverage and handling arrangements confirmed for your address.

For UK-to-Spain removals, the main choice is often between sharing a road service and reserving a dedicated vehicle. We assess the packed volume and your timing before recommending an option. A few boxes, selected furniture and a full household each need a different balance of space, cost and flexibility.

Build your quote around the complete journey: preparation, UK collection, export arrangements, international transport and delivery at destination. Customs requirements and any available relief depend on the goods and your circumstances. Use the route guidance below to prepare the paperwork, and confirm storage or specialist handling before the booking is finalised.

A Moving Company for Relocation to Spain

Spain is a popular destination for permanent relocations, retirement moves, employee transfers and second-home shipments. A post-Brexit household move still requires international planning, even when the journey is completed mainly by road.

Move Home Easy brings together the move as one organised service. We start by assessing what you are moving and the amount of packed space it is likely to occupy. We can then compare shared road freight, a dedicated removals vehicle, container transport and air freight based on your volume, timetable and budget.

Many mainland moves travel by road through France after crossing the Channel by ferry or tunnel. Direct sea routes between the UK and northern Spain may also be suitable, particularly for certain origins, destinations, vehicle schedules or island connections.

The destination address matters as well. Deliveries into central Madrid or Barcelona may involve parking permission, loading restrictions and apartment access, while a rural finca, mountain village, old town or island property may require a smaller vehicle or additional handling.

Move Home Easy manages the removals and transport side of the relocation. Before the arrangements are finalised, confirm property-specific rules directly with the landlord, estate agent, building manager, local authority or employer responsible for the accommodation.

UK-to-Spain Relocation Services

The services below can be combined around your move. Before booking, check the written quotation for the agreed scope and any exclusions.

Home or Video Survey

A survey is used to estimate the packed volume, review access at the UK property and identify goods needing specialist preparation. This allows us to recommend an appropriate service and prepare a more accurate quotation.

Show the surveyor everything that may be included, including goods in a loft, garage, shed or external unit. Identify artwork, mirrors, musical instruments, large televisions, exercise equipment, antiques, stone furniture, safes and other unusual items.

Professional Export Packing

Goods moved to Spain can pass through several handling points, particularly when using a shared-load service. Furniture and cartons may move through the UK property, removals vehicle, depot, customs area, cross-Channel transport and final delivery vehicle.

Professional packing can include suitable cartons, furniture wrapping, picture and mirror protection, dismantling of appropriate furniture and reinforced preparation for fragile or unusually shaped items.

UK Collection

Arrangements for collection can be made from a house, apartment, storage unit or business premises. The collection plan should account for parking, stairs, lifts, narrow roads, loading restrictions and the distance between the property and the vehicle.

Accurate access information helps ensure that the correct vehicle, crew and equipment are scheduled.

Road Freight to Spain

Road freight is normally the most practical option for household moves to mainland Spain. Goods can travel as part of a shared load or in a removals vehicle allocated solely to your move.

Routes may cross the Channel and continue through France, or use a direct ferry to northern Spain. When assessing the selected route, take the UK origin, Spanish destination, customs arrangements, vehicle availability and schedule into account.

Container and Sea Freight

It may be possible to consider container or sea transport for very large moves, island destinations, longer storage projects or routes where direct road freight is not the most suitable solution.

Your quotation should state whether packing, UK collection, export handling, international transport, customs support, destination handling and final delivery are included.

Air Freight

Air freight may suit a small amount of urgent belongings, including clothing, work equipment and immediate-use items needed before the main shipment arrives.

It is faster but generally more expensive for the amount transported. Charges may be based on actual or volumetric weight.

Customs Documentation Support

Move Home Easy and the appointed customs representative can explain the documents normally required for a transfer-of-residence shipment. These may include a detailed valued inventory, residence evidence, identity documents, transport documents and customs authorisation.

Spanish Customs makes all final decisions on relief, classification, inspection, valuation, duty, VAT or other taxes and release. Alcohol, tobacco, commercial goods, professional equipment and unusual items should be identified before packing.

Destination Delivery

After customs release, the destination team arranges transport to the stated Spanish address. Delivery may include unloading, basic reassembly and removal of used packing materials, depending on the service selected.

Before the arrangements are finalised, check loading hours, lift access, parking, low-emission-zone rules, vehicle restrictions and building-management requirements. A shuttle vehicle may be needed where a large removals vehicle cannot reach the property.

Storage

It may be possible to use storage before export or after customs clearance in Spain. It may help when travel, property completion, tenancy or renovation dates do not align with the moving schedule.

Ask where the goods will be stored, how charges are calculated, whether intake and release handling are separate, and how much notice is required.

Business and Employee Relocation

Our team at Move Home Easy can help you bring together household-goods shipments for employers relocating staff from the UK to Spain. The service can be planned around a relocation allowance, authorised shipment volume, employee start date and approval process.

Clear communication between the employee, employer and moving team helps ensure that additional services are agreed before costs are incurred.

How Moving from the UK to Spain Works

Although every household has different needs, most moves from the UK to Spain can be organised around the following sequence of practical steps.

  1. Initial Move Assessment

Help us assess the move by providing the UK collection postcode, Spanish destination, approximate shipment size and preferred moving period. Mention deadlines, storage needs and specialist goods.

  2. Home or Video Survey

The survey establishes the expected packed volume and identifies furniture, access and handling requirements.

  3. Transfer-of-Residence Review

Get confirmation of whether Spain will become your normal residence, how long you have lived outside the EU, how long the goods have been owned and used, and when your residence transfer takes place.

  4. Written Quotation

The quotation should explain the transport method, packing, UK collection, customs support, Spanish delivery and exclusions. Review possible inspection, duty, tax, storage and access charges.

  5. Service Selection

Choose between shared road freight, a dedicated vehicle, container transport, air freight or a combination. When assessing the best choice, take measured volume, route and urgency into account.

  6. Document Preparation

Supply the required residence, identity and shipping documents and review the complete inventory. Get confirmation of whether any excluded or controlled goods are included.

  7. Packing and Collection

The crew prepares and numbers the agreed packages. Travel with passports, medication, cash, jewellery, keys and immediate essentials rather than packing them in the main shipment.

  8. UK Export and International Transport

The goods complete the UK export process and travel through the selected road, ferry, sea or air route. Shared shipments may pass through a consolidation depot.

  9. Spanish Customs Clearance

The customs representative submits the import declaration and supporting documents. Customs may approve relief, request evidence, assess taxes or inspect the goods.

  10. Delivery to Your Spanish Address

After release, the delivery team transports the shipment to the stated address. Parking, building and road access should be confirmed in advance.

Transporting Household Goods to Spain

Shared road freight, dedicated vehicles, container transport and air freight each suit a different type of move. When assessing the right choice, take volume, urgency, route, budget and delivery flexibility into account.

Shared Road Freight or Groupage

A groupage service brings together separately packed shipments from several customers travelling on compatible UK-to-Spain routes. Each customer pays for the space occupied.

This can suit boxes, selected furniture, small flats and second-home shipments.

Scheduling because collection and delivery must fit the wider route is the main consideration.

Dedicated Removals Vehicle

A dedicated vehicle is allocated to one customer's move. It can suit a full household, larger shipment or relocation with fixed timing requirements.

Sole use provides greater control over loading, routing and delivery. Vehicle size should be recommended after the survey.

Container or Sea-Freight Service

A container may be appropriate for a very large household, an island destination, a longer storage project or a move that cannot be completed through a standard road service.

Container services involve additional terminal and handling stages, so the door-to-door scope should be checked carefully.

Air Freight to Spain

Air freight is the fastest option for suitable consignments and is usually best for compact urgent shipments rather than a furnished household.

Some customers send immediate-use belongings by air and move the main household by road or sea.

Transport Option Comparison

Shared road freight or groupageBoxes, small flats and partial household movesPay for the space usedBroader collection and delivery window

Professional Packing for a Move to Spain

Export packing prepares belongings for repeated handling, border procedures and international transport. It also gives the move a numbered package inventory that can support the shipping records and customs file.

Use furniture wrapping and cartons matched to their contents, with extra protection for fragile pieces. Individually made cases may be appropriate for artwork, antiques, mirrors, glass, stone or unusually shaped belongings.

Items that may need additional preparation

  • Pictures, mirrors and framed artwork
  • Glass tables and cabinets
  • Antiques and sculptures
  • Televisions, monitors and audio equipment
  • Musical instruments
  • Stone and unusually heavy furniture
  • Large appliances
  • Bicycles and sports equipment
  • High-value collections
  • Goods requiring custom cases

Compare its dimensions with the destination rooms, doors, stairs and lifts before shipping large furniture. Spanish old-town buildings, rural fincas and apartment blocks can have restricted access.

Check the service terms before deciding to pack your own cartons. Some services accept them, but protection or insurance can differ and their contents still need to be recorded correctly.

Spanish Customs Clearance for Household Goods

Great Britain is treated as a country outside the European Union for customs purposes. A household shipment entering mainland Spain or the Balearic Islands therefore requires an import declaration, even when all items are used and privately owned.

Spain allows qualifying people to import personal property free from import duty and taxes when transferring their normal residence from a non-EU country. Relief is conditional and should be reviewed before the move.

Main conditions for transfer-of-residence relief

  • The applicant has normally lived outside the EU customs territory for at least 12 consecutive months.
  • The applicant transfers or intends to transfer their normal residence to Spain.
  • The personal goods have normally been in the applicant's possession and use for at least six months before the move.
  • The goods will be used for the same private purposes in Spain.
  • The goods are declared for import within 12 months of establishing normal residence in the EU.

Relief can also be considered before the person formally establishes residence when they commit to doing so within six months and provide any guarantee required by Customs.

How the relief is requested

The customs-duty relief and tax exemption are requested through the import declaration instead of through a separate advance application. The customs representative will need the appropriate supporting documents and relief codes.

Restriction on selling or transferring the goods

Goods admitted under the relief cannot normally be lent, pledged, hired, sold or otherwise transferred without informing Customs for 12 months after the import declaration is accepted. A transfer can cause import duty and tax to become payable.

Goods excluded from the ordinary relief

  • Alcoholic products
  • Tobacco and tobacco products
  • Commercial means of transport
  • Professional equipment other than qualifying portable instruments
  • Commercial stock and goods that appear intended for sale

Mainland Spain, Balearic Islands and Canary Islands

Mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands are within the EU VAT and customs framework used for ordinary mainland imports. The Canary Islands have a different indirect-tax system using IGIC and require specific customs treatment. A quotation and customs plan for the Canaries should therefore be prepared separately.

Main residence and second homes

The relief applies to a genuine transfer of normal residence. Goods imported only to furnish a holiday or second home do not qualify on that basis and may be subject to import duty, VAT or IGIC and other charges.

Customs inspection

Spanish Customs can review documents, values and descriptions and can select the vehicle or shipment for examination. Officials may open selected packages and compare the contents with the inventory.

Accurate descriptions and early disclosure of alcohol, tobacco, food, plants, weapons, professional equipment, new purchases and commercial goods can support the process, but no moving company can guarantee relief or exemption from inspection.

The information in this section is general guidance instead of legal or customs advice. Requirements can change, and Spanish Customs and other government authorities make all final decisions.

Documents Commonly Needed When Moving to Spain

Your checklist will be determined by the customer's circumstances, goods, route and customs representative. Commonly requested documents can include:

  • Passport or national identity document
  • NIE, residence application or other Spanish residence evidence where available
  • Detailed, valued, dated and signed inventory
  • Proof of the former normal residence in the UK
  • Proof that the customer is establishing normal residence in Spain
  • Employment, retirement, tenancy, purchase or relocation documents where relevant
  • Transport document or consignment note
  • UK export and Spanish import declaration information
  • Authorisation or power of attorney for the customs representative
  • Invoices or valuations for new and high-value goods where requested
  • Licences, certificates or permits for controlled goods
  • Vehicle registration and ownership documents where applicable

Names should be consistent across the identity document, transport document, inventory and customs authorisation. Tell the moving team promptly if the consignee, address or residence-transfer date changes.

The inventory should use clear descriptions and realistic second-hand values. Examples include “used kitchen utensils”, “adult clothing”, “children's books”, “bedding” and “small household electrical items”. Avoid describing every carton simply as “miscellaneous”.

Keep electronic copies of the main documents available while the shipment is in transit.

Restricted and Prohibited Goods in Spain

A household move is not exempt from Spanish and EU controls on regulated products. Some goods require an import licence, permit, inspection or certificate, while prohibited goods must not be included.

Examples of prohibited or tightly controlled goods

  • Illegal drugs and prohibited controlled substances
  • Counterfeit and pirated goods
  • Meat, milk and certain products containing them
  • Protected wildlife and products from endangered species
  • Other goods prohibited under Spanish or EU law

Goods requiring particular attention

  • Food, medicines, cosmetics and medical products
  • Plants, seeds, soil, fruit and plant products
  • Live animals and animal products
  • Alcohol, cigarettes and tobacco products
  • Antiques, artworks and cultural property
  • Firearms, ammunition and weapon-related items
  • Chemicals, flammable liquids, gases and hazardous materials
  • Professional tools, business equipment and commercial stock
  • New goods or goods in commercial quantities

This list is not complete. The customs representative should check any unusual item before it is packed.

Items to keep with you

  • Passports and original residence documents
  • Prescription medication and supporting medical information
  • Cash, jewellery and irreplaceable valuables
  • Keys and important tenancy or property paperwork
  • Phones, laptops and chargers required immediately
  • Several days of clothing and essential toiletries
  • Children's immediate-use items
  • Important school and veterinary records

How Much Does It Cost to Move from the UK to Spain?

There is no single reliable price for a UK-to-Spain removal. When assessing the total, take shipment volume, transport method, packing, collection access, destination delivery, storage and specialist requirements into account.

Shipment Volume

Volume is normally one of the largest pricing factors and is commonly measured in cubic feet or cubic metres after allowing for protective packing.

A survey is more reliable than bedroom count. Decluttering may reduce packing and transport costs.

Transport Method

Groupage spreads vehicle and route costs between customers. A dedicated vehicle provides sole use but assigns the full journey cost to one move. Air freight is faster and more expensive for larger volumes.

UK Collection Access

Labour and vehicle costs can be affected by parking restrictions, stairs, long carries and difficult roads. Provide the full postcode and accurate access information.

Spanish Delivery Access

The plan can be affected by apartment buildings, old towns, gated developments, rural roads, mountain properties and islands. A shuttle vehicle, permit or additional carrying work may be needed.

Ferry, Road and Toll Costs

Channel crossings, direct ferries, toll roads, fuel, driver time, route distance and vehicle restrictions all affect transport cost.

Packing and Specialist Handling

Artwork, antiques, pianos, stone, safes and other unusual goods may require custom packing or specialist equipment.

Storage

Storage charges may include intake handling, a weekly or monthly rate and later release or redelivery fees.

Customs Duty, VAT, IGIC and Inspections

A qualifying normal-residence transfer may receive relief, but second-home shipments, excluded goods, new purchases, commercial property and ineligible vehicles can create taxes and handling charges. Canary Islands shipments require separate IGIC and customs planning.

Insurance or Shipment Protection

Read the protection terms alongside the quote. Establish what is included, which additional cover is available and how to declare valuable or owner-packed belongings.

Questions to ask when comparing quotations

  • Is the quotation door to door?
  • Does it include professional packing?
  • Does it include collection from my UK address?
  • Is the service shared or dedicated?
  • Are ferry, road and toll charges included?
  • Does it include UK export and Spanish customs handling?
  • Does it include delivery to my exact Spanish postcode?
  • Are unpacking and furniture reassembly included?
  • What access, parking or shuttle charges could apply?
  • What storage costs could be added?
  • Which duty, VAT, IGIC or inspection charges are excluded?
  • What insurance or shipment-protection options are available?

How Long Does Moving from the UK to Spain Take?

Depending on the UK origin, Spanish destination, customs readiness, route and access, a dedicated road service can sometimes complete collection and delivery within approximately four to ten days.

Shared or groupage services normally have a broader timeframe because the vehicle follows a route containing several collections and deliveries. A planning range of approximately two to six weeks may be used for many shared moves.

Air freight can move quickly between airports, but collection, customs and final delivery affect the complete timeframe. Container, Balearic and Canary Islands services can take longer.

Treat the quoted ranges as planning estimates. A confirmed delivery date depends on the arrangements for your individual shipment.

Factors that can affect the schedule

  • Groupage route planning
  • Vehicle and crew availability
  • UK collection arrangements
  • Ferry or Channel Tunnel availability
  • Direct ferry schedules to Spain
  • Weather and Channel disruption
  • UK export-document completion
  • Spanish customs-document review
  • Physical inspection
  • Duty, VAT or IGIC assessment
  • Restricted-item permits
  • Storage instructions
  • Building delivery bookings
  • Island or long-distance transport

Travel with clothing, medication, work equipment and immediate essentials rather than packing them in the main shipment.

Relocation Services Across Spain

Moving to Madrid

Madrid and the surrounding region contain dense urban districts, controlled parking, apartment buildings and low-emission-zone requirements. Delivery planning may need parking permission, lift bookings and a smaller vehicle.

Moving to Barcelona or Catalonia

Barcelona deliveries can involve restricted central streets, loading windows, apartment access and environmental-zone rules. Wider Catalonia includes coastal, rural and mountain destinations requiring different vehicle planning.

Moving to Valencia or the Costa Blanca

Valencia, Alicante, Benidorm, Jávea and surrounding areas are common destinations for family, retirement and second-home moves. Urban apartments, villas and gated communities can have different access requirements.

Moving to Málaga or the Costa del Sol

Málaga, Marbella, Estepona, Fuengirola and nearby areas can involve long-distance road transport, gated developments, hillside roads and seasonal traffic.

Moving to Seville or Andalusia

Arrangements for deliveries across Andalusia can be made to major cities, coastal locations and rural properties. Old-town access, narrow roads and high temperatures may affect delivery planning.

Moving to Northern Spain

Depending on the UK origin and final address, bilbao, Santander, Asturias, Galicia and other northern destinations may suit direct ferry or road routes. Rural and mountain access should be reviewed before moving day.

Moving to the Balearic Islands

Moves to Mallorca, Menorca or Ibiza require an additional ferry or sea-freight stage. Seasonal schedules, island handling and local access affect the quotation and timing.

Moving to the Canary Islands

Moves to Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura or another Canary Island require a separate sea-freight and customs plan. IGIC and island customs procedures differ from mainland Spain.

Cars, Pets and Employee Relocation to Spain

Taking a Vehicle from the UK to Spain

A private vehicle can qualify for customs and tax relief when the owner genuinely transfers residence, has normally lived outside the EU for at least 12 months and has owned and used the vehicle at the former residence for at least six months.

A vehicle from Great Britain must pass through customs and then complete Spanish technical and registration procedures. Documents can include the original registration certificate, proof of ownership, customs clearance certificate, European Certificate of Conformity or equivalent technical documentation, Spanish ITV documentation and evidence of payment, exemption or non-liability for the relevant taxes.

The deadline connected to definitive Spanish registration is normally 30 days from the start of use in Spain and is extended to 60 days for a transfer of residence. Obtain specialist advice before driving or shipping the vehicle.

Moving Pets to Spain

For dogs, cats and ferrets travelling from Great Britain to Spain, the usual requirements include an approved microchip, a valid rabies vaccination and an animal health certificate issued by an official veterinarian before entry into the EU.

The certificate is valid for EU entry for 10 days from issue. A first rabies vaccination requires a waiting period of at least 21 full days before travel. The current certificate can remain valid for onward EU travel and re-entry to Great Britain for up to six months, subject to the official conditions.

Pets should enter through an authorised travellers' point of entry. Non-commercial rules generally cover no more than five animals and require the owner or authorised person to travel within the permitted period.

Corporate and Employee Moves

Employers may need a defined shipment allowance, approval procedure and reporting structure. Our team at Move Home Easy can help you bring together survey, packing, storage, customs support, international transport and delivery.

Small Moves and Boxes

A shared road service may carry your boxes, books, clothing and selected furniture without you needing to fill or reserve a whole removals vehicle.

Provide dimensions, weights where known, photographs or an item list so the volume can be estimated.

Why Use Move Home Easy for a Relocation to Spain?

Treat the international removal as one connected plan. Your inventory, packing, route, customs file and delivery arrangements need to agree, even where different teams carry out individual stages.

Move Home Easy brings together these stages from the UK. We assess the consignment, explain the differences between groupage, dedicated vehicles, container transport and air freight, and work with the customs and destination teams through clearance and delivery.

We also encourage customers to compare like-for-like quotations. A low transport price may exclude packing by a professional crew, customs handling, storage, tolls, ferry charges, access work and final delivery.

Move Home Easy coordinates the practical stages that make a Spain relocation work: survey planning, export packing, UK collection, route selection, customs support, storage where the move requires it and destination delivery across mainland Spain and island destinations.

Your questions about Moving to Spain from the UK:

At what stage should I book a move to Spain?

Allow more time for a survey, quotation, customs preparation and route planning by starting around eight to twelve weeks before collection.

How can I keep costs down when I move belongings to Spain?

Shared road freight or groupage is often economical because the customer pays for the space used for a smaller flexible shipment. Compare the complete service rather than transport alone.

What should I budget to move from the UK to Spain?

Your quotation is worked out from shipment volume, shared or dedicated transport, packing, UK collection access, Spanish delivery access, storage and specialist items. A survey followed by a written door-to-door quotation is the most reliable way to establish the cost.

What time limit applies if I need to import my belongings?

Normally, qualifying goods should be declared for import within 12 months of establishing normal residence in the EU.

Is it possible to import my belongings before I formally move?

It may be possible to consider relief before the residence transfer when you commit to establishing normal residence in the EU within six months and provide any guarantee required by Customs.

Is it possible for my belongings to be stored during the move?

Depending on availability, you may be able to store the goods before export or after customs clearance. Confirm the location, recurring rate, handling charges and release arrangements.

What validity period applies to the animal health certificate?

It is valid for entry into the EU for 10 days after issue and, under the current rules, can remain valid for onward EU travel and re-entry to Great Britain for up to six months.

What timing should I allow for a move from the UK to Spain?

A dedicated road move may take approximately four to ten days when customs documents and access are ready. Shared-load services commonly use a broader planning window of approximately two to six weeks.

Is it possible to ship only boxes to Spain?

Yes. Boxes and smaller personal-effects consignments can often travel through a shared road-freight service.

When would I need a dedicated removals vehicle?

It depends on the shipment. A dedicated vehicle is normally recommended when the volume, route or timing requirements justify sole use.

What should I know about groupage transport?

A groupage service brings together separately packed shipments from several customers on a compatible route. Each customer pays for the space occupied.

Is it possible to ship new furniture or appliances?

New goods may not satisfy the six-month ownership and use condition and can be subject to duty and tax. Keep invoices and identify recent purchases before packing.

Is it possible to move furniture to a holiday home in Spain?

This may be possible, although a second-home shipment is normally taxable and should not be presented as a qualifying transfer of normal residence.

Under what conditions are used household goods duty free when moving to Spain?

Where you genuinely transfer your normal residence, have lived outside the EU for at least 12 consecutive months and have owned and used the goods for at least six months, they may qualify for relief.

Is it possible to sell my goods after importing them under the relief?

Relieved goods cannot normally be lent, pledged, hired, sold or otherwise transferred without notifying Customs for 12 months after import.

Which paperwork should I prepare for Spanish customs clearance?

For the paperwork file, you will commonly need identity and residence evidence, a detailed valued inventory, transport documents, UK export information, the Spanish import declaration and customs authorisation.

Could my shipment be inspected by Spanish Customs?

Spanish Customs can review the documentation and select the vehicle or shipment for physical examination.

Is collection from anywhere in the UK available?

We can arrange UK collection for Spain removals from London and many other UK locations. The full postcode and property access details are needed for an accurate quotation.

Is delivery anywhere in Spain available?

Discuss the available delivery arrangements for Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, Málaga, Seville, northern Spain and other mainland destinations before booking. Balearic and Canary Islands moves require additional arrangements.

Is it possible to ship alcohol or tobacco?

The ordinary transfer-of-residence relief and are subject to separate customs and excise rules does not cover alcohol and tobacco.

Is help available to move pets to Spain?

Follow the current UK-to-EU rules when arranging pet transport. For dogs, cats and ferrets, the usual requirements include a microchip, valid rabies vaccination and an animal health certificate issued before travel.

Is it possible to use transfer-of-residence relief for a second home?

Furnishing a holiday or second home is different from transferring your normal residence. Goods sent solely for that purpose do not qualify under normal-residence relief and may be taxable.

How do Canary Islands moves differ from mainland Spain?

No. The Canary Islands use IGIC and have separate customs and indirect-tax procedures. The move should be quoted and planned specifically for the destination island.

Is it possible to take my UK car when moving to Spain?

Yes, subject to customs, technical and registration requirements. A qualifying private vehicle may receive relief when it has been owned and used for at least six months and the other residence conditions are met.

What is the deadline to register my car in Spain?

The relevant definitive-registration period is normally 30 days from the start of use and is extended to 60 days in the case of a transfer of residence.

What should I check about cover for an international removal?

Consider cover for the whole move, since the shipment passes through multiple handling, customs and transport stages.

A note from Move Home Easy

A little preparation makes moving easier

Create a moving folder before your survey: include a room-by-room list, access photos and your preferred dates. Then compare written quotes line by line, checking the allowances for packing, transport, storage and delivery. This makes gaps in the service easier to spot before you book.
