Home or Video Survey
The survey checks property access in Spain, furniture and the expected packed volume.
Spain to United Kingdom European Removals
Moving from Spain to the UK starts with two connected plans: leaving your current home and getting your belongings into the next one. Move Home Easy can coordinate packing, collection, international transport, customs support and delivery, whether you are returning to Britain or making it your home for the first time.
Mainland routes, island deliveries and hillside properties need different arrangements. A narrow old-town street or apartment lift can affect the vehicle and crew even when the shipment itself is straightforward. For the UK end of the move, send the destination postcode and the date you expect to have access. That helps us plan the freight and final delivery around the same practical requirements.
Your removals from Spain to the UK can use a dedicated road service or a shared load, depending on the measured volume and your flexibility. Start with a video or home survey, include items in storage and compare the full quotation for packing, transport, customs assistance and delivery.
Prepare the import paperwork alongside the transport booking. Eligible household belongings may qualify for HMRC Transfer of Residence relief, but residence, possession, use and timing conditions still apply. Check the detailed guidance below, keep an accurate inventory and obtain the relevant approval before the relief is claimed.
A useful comparison for a Spain-to-UK moving company is the whole door-to-door quote. Mileage does not account for the packing, customs, crossing charges, tolls, storage and access work that may affect the total.
HMRC normally requires 12 continuous months outside the UK, six months' possession of the goods and import within 12 months of settling in the UK. The goods must continue in the same use.

Coordinate your European move with your own travel date, ToR application and export declaration. The road route and final delivery address in UK should be agreed as part of the same plan.
Collection can be timed before or after your own journey, as the goods need not travel with you. The timing must still comply with customs requirements and the conditions of any relief claimed.
Smaller, flexible moves often suit groupage. Dedicated road transport is more suitable for larger households or fixed dates.
EU export and UK import clearance are separate. Move Home Easy coordinates both representatives using consistent inventories, transport records and ToR references.
Our guidance primarily covers England, Scotland and Wales. For personal belongings moving from the EU to Northern Ireland, different rules generally mean that ToR relief is not required.
The survey checks property access in Spain, furniture and the expected packed volume.
The origin crew can prepare cartons, furniture protection and specialist packing for the road journey.
Collection can be planned from an approved house, apartment or storage facility. Share floor, lift, parking and loading restrictions.
If control over dates is a priority, a dedicated service can reserve the agreed vehicle or carrying capacity for your household alone.
A smaller load can join other separately packed consignments in a shared vehicle heading towards the UK.
The origin customs representative prepares the export declaration and relevant route records ahead of the shipment leaving EU customs territory.
The destination agent in UK uses your HMRC ToR reference with the import declaration.
Subject to availability, store goods before export or in the UK after clearance.
Once customs releases the shipment, delivery proceeds to your agreed address in UK.
Send your collection area in Spain, delivery destination in UK, dates and estimated volume so the move can be assessed.
The survey assesses volume, packing, furniture preparation and crew access.
Apply for ToR1 before import into Great Britain, allowing time for HMRC approval.
Compare dedicated, groupage and small-shipment services with Move Home Easy.
Check the quote for packing, collection, customs assistance, transport, UK delivery and exclusions.
Prepare a complete file containing passports, ToR approval, the inventory, previous-residence evidence, address records in UK and customs authorisations.
The origin crew packs, numbers and collects your agreed belongings.
The export declaration is submitted by the customs broker, who also confirms the route out of the customs territory.
The agreed road route takes the vehicle to Great Britain by ferry or Channel Tunnel.
Your representative in UK submits the import declaration with the ToR reference where relief applies.
HMRC or Border Force may inspect the goods or request supporting evidence.
Following customs release, your belongings can either go to the delivery address or into storage in UK.
Dedicated vehicles suit larger households, fixed dates or the shortest practical road schedule.
Groupage can cost less for a small consignment because transport is shared along the same route. Each shipment keeps its own inventory, while collection and delivery use a broader timetable.
Boxes, clothing, books, bicycles and selected furniture can travel without reserving a whole vehicle.
Most household moves travel by road through Spain and France before crossing the Channel by ferry or tunnel.
| Service | Best for | Benefit | Consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dedicated | Larger homes | Direct schedule | Higher cost |
| Groupage | Boxes and smaller moves | Pay for space used | Broader schedule |
| Small shipment | Selected belongings | No full vehicle needed | Minimum charges may apply |
Spanish Tax Agency guidance confirms that movements of goods between Spain and Great Britain are subject to customs formalities after Brexit. The export declaration and supporting records should be arranged before the vehicle leaves the EU.
The carrier and customs team must also complete the current French ELO requirements where the vehicle exits through the French Smart Border.
Confirm the export documents with the broker for your collection location, customs office and exit route.
The packing plan needs to cover origin collection, warehouse handling, loading, road transport across Europe, possible customs inspection in UK and final delivery.
For fragile pieces, a custom case may be recommended. Check whether any international wood packaging must meet ISPM 15 requirements before it is made.
Number every carton and individually wrapped item to match the customs inventory.
Transfer of Residence relief may remove the usual duty and VAT on eligible personal effects, pets and private vehicles entering the UK.
The usual residence requirement is 12 continuous months outside the UK before relocating.
You should normally have possessed the goods for at least six months before moving.
The belongings should continue in their existing household or personal use in the UK.
Eligible belongings normally need to arrive within 12 months of settling in the UK; separate consignments are permitted.
For 12 months after moving, relief goods normally cannot be lent, hired out, transferred or used as security.
Obtain HMRC approval through an accurate ToR1 application before claiming relief.
Keep names consistent across passports, inventory, shipping records and ToR approval.
The inventory must identify goods clearly for the origin crew, UK customs representative and delivery team.
Record new purchases and valuable belongings clearly. A household-effects shipment should not be used to bring in business merchandise or stock under personal relief.
ToR does not remove import restrictions. UK licensing, prohibited-goods, food and plant-health requirements still apply, alongside carrier conditions.
Food, animal products, plants and plant products can be subject to current Great Britain import restrictions or certification requirements. Before packing, check the rules for the specific goods.
Travel with your passport, essential medication, cash, jewellery and irreplaceable documents.
For planning, allow approximately 4–8 days for many dedicated moves and 7–16 days for many groupage moves. These are not guaranteed delivery periods.
Take medication, work equipment, chargers and first-day essentials with you if needed before delivery.
Price depends on volume, collection address, transport, packing, customs, crossings, UK destination, storage and access.
Packed volume determines vehicle capacity, handling and shared-load charges.
Groupage shares transport costs; a dedicated vehicle serves your own consignment.
Collection distance, the Channel crossing and the destination postcode in UK influence the driving time, tolls and ferry charges.
Full packing, fragile packing, bespoke cases and furniture preparation change the labour and materials needed.
ToR may remove duty and VAT while export paperwork, customs agents, inspections and waiting remain chargeable.
Include collection, intake, ongoing storage, release and redelivery in storage comparisons.
After customs release, delivery can proceed to an approved address in UK, subject to confirmed coverage.
Send parking, floor, lift, narrow-road and building-management details before booking delivery.
Eligible private vehicles may receive ToR relief, but the remaining vehicle-import requirements still apply.
The agent normally submits the import declaration and ToR reference. Permanent vehicle imports generally need HMRC notification through the applicable NOVA process within 14 days.
For normal UK road use, complete vehicle approval, DVLA registration, tax and insurance.
Request a separate quote for transporting a vehicle alongside your household move.
Pets travelling from EU countries must meet the applicable Great Britain entry rules. For cats, dogs and ferrets, correct identification and vaccination form part of those requirements.
An EU-issued pet passport may be accepted if it is still valid and records the necessary rabies information. Check the route and any tapeworm treatment requirements against your animal's actual journey.
Plan pets separately from household freight with a veterinarian and, where needed, a specialist provider.
Connect each stage of your return to the UK: packing at origin, export clearance, road or small-shipment transport, HMRC ToR arrangements and final delivery.
Move Home Easy can put the door-to-door journey into one plan, explaining how shared loads, dedicated vehicles, smaller shipment services and storage compare for your needs.
Build the schedule around your household's requirements, with help planning collection, packing, customs paperwork, storage in UK and delivery to the final address.
Your application needs to show HMRC that the UK will be your normal home. The belongings must relate to an actual change of residence, rather than a commercial import presented as a household move.
Your evidence will be determined by the customer's circumstances. A returning British citizen ending an employment contract in Spain can have a different document file from a Spaini national moving to the UK for a new job.
Keep evidence supporting six months' possession. Invoices, warranties, insurance records, dated photos and older inventories may establish ownership and age if HMRC asks.
Give accurate purchase dates and descriptions in the ToR application. Taking new items out of their packaging or describing them as older household effects does not establish eligibility for relief.
Belongings you originally took from the UK may need a different customs assessment when you bring them back from Spain to the UK. Depending on the facts, Returned Goods Relief may be relevant alongside or instead of Transfer of Residence planning.
Returned Goods Relief has its own tests. These concern the identity of the items and their importer, and whether the goods were changed or increased in value while overseas.
Ask the customs representative to choose the appropriate relief and procedure for your actual belongings. An item is not automatically exempt from duty just because it was purchased in Britain in the past.
If you buy electronics, furniture or other household items shortly before leaving Spain, check the six-month possession rule before assuming they qualify for relief.
Use the normal UK import procedure for goods that do not meet ToR conditions. Customs duty and import VAT may be due on those items.
A new product remains a recent purchase even if you remove its packaging; doing so does not make it automatically eligible for ToR.
Full-time students moving to the UK may qualify for separate relief on clothing, study equipment and household effects. HMRC generally directs eligible student goods through that route rather than standard ToR1.
Your customs agent should confirm the correct procedure and obtain evidence that the course is full time.
If a move to the UK is connected with marriage or civil partnership, ask about the separate relief for qualifying household effects and wedding-related goods.
That relief has its own residence, timing and gift-value tests. A claim under the specific marriage rules should not simply be replaced with an ordinary ToR application.
HMRC may consider limited exceptions where events outside your control prevented compliance with certain ToR conditions. Explain the circumstances and include supporting evidence with your application.
Check access at your delivery address in UK before the goods arrive. The international truck or final-delivery vehicle may be significantly larger than the one used for collection in Spain.
If your the UK home is unavailable, use approved storage after customs release and book redelivery once the address and access date are confirmed.
Check whether quoted unpacking includes opening boxes, removing used materials and reassembling suitable furniture.
Handle immigration, address updates, healthcare, banking and vehicle administration separately alongside your household move to the United Kingdom.
Immigration, tax residence and public-service entitlement are matters for the relevant authority or adviser, outside our household-removal service.
Take enough essentials for your first days because the main household consignment may be out of reach for several days during transport and clearance.
Keep the belongings needed immediately in the UK with you. Your own arrival does not guarantee the shipment has arrived too: transport and customs timings can change.
Where suitable, send a separate small load of essentials ahead while the main furniture and boxes follow by road.
Moving in the other direction?
For the reverse journey from the UK, our door-to-door service can cover export packing, international transport, customs assistance and the final delivery.
The outbound route has its own guide. Follow the link for transport choices, the relevant customs information and the details needed for a personalised quote.
A dedicated removals booking reserves the agreed vehicle or capacity for your own household shipment.
Food, plants and animal products can be restricted when entering Great Britain. Before packing, check the current rules for the specific goods.
Start around eight to twelve weeks before collection for ToR approval, packing and freight booking.
The usual test is a minimum of six months' possession of the goods before moving.
Plan to import eligible belongings into the UK within the usual 12-month period after taking up residence.
During the first 12 months following the move, ToR goods normally cannot be transferred, lent, hired out or used as security.
Allow several days as a common starting point for dedicated road removals; groupage normally needs a wider window. The route, customs process and delivery address determine the actual schedule.
A few boxes or selected belongings can use groupage, a small-shipment service or another appropriate transport option for the route.
In a groupage vehicle, separately packed household loads share the available space rather than reserving it for one customer.
Apply to HMRC using ToR1 before importing belongings into the UK to request Transfer of Residence relief.
Normally, you should have lived outside the UK continuously for at least 12 months before the relocation.
Alcohol and tobacco do not qualify for the normal ToR relief; check their separate customs treatment before including them.
Prepare passports, ToR approval, inventory, former-residence and UK address evidence, shipping records and customs authorisation.
HMRC and Border Force may inspect the shipment or request additional information.
Report a permanent vehicle import into Great Britain to HMRC, generally within 14 days.
You can arrange delivery later by placing the goods in UK storage after customs clearance is complete.
Where available, origin storage may bridge the export gap. Confirm intake, recurring, release and later handling charges.
Eligible belongings for full-time study have a separate customs-relief procedure. Students generally use that route rather than the normal ToR1 application.
Companies and ordinary commercial assets do not qualify for personal ToR relief. The relief concerns living individuals and their personal property.
HMRC relief depends on the UK becoming your normal home and meeting residence, ownership, use and import-timing conditions.
ToR may cover an eligible private car. NOVA, approval, DVLA registration, tax and insurance remain separate requirements.
For cats, dogs and ferrets, check Great Britain's pet-entry requirements against the country of origin. That determines the necessary paperwork and any rabies-testing arrangements.
Use about 5–10 days, subject to routing and clearance as a broad planning estimate.
The move normally runs from survey and export packing to collection in Spain, export clearance and road or small-shipment transport. Customs in UK and delivery complete the journey.
Start by telling Move Home Easy what needs moving, the collection point in Spain and its destination in the UK. We can review packing, volume, transport, ToR preparation and delivery as a complete move.
